3.      Self Advocate Update

a.       CARS Cougars

-Z99 tour in May, Working on “Stranger Beware” course

 

-Social planners hosted a successful “Spring Supper and Dance”

 

-My Life Workbook Mentorship still available call Harvie, Angela, Natalie or Brent

 

-Attended the Consumer Conference Planning meeting, CARS is the financing agency again this year, attended Money Finders meeting

 

-Donated to our Adopt a Family little girl’s birthday in May and are working on getting them bikes and bike helmets

 

-The Volunteer Skills Project with CIRS wrapped up in April and had Training the Trainer for the support workers, handbook for the Volunteers and the manual for the support workers

 

-Rights group presented for The Office of the Public Guardian, PDD, and the Cougars

 

-CASA is working on advertising on bus’ and movie theatre ads with Safe Communities Coalition on pedestrian safety. Watch for ads in June, July and August. CASA working on Plain Language, training was completed in April

 

-Social Stories Workshops held in Feb and March, Peer Support Group in May

 

-Music group, scrap booking, WWE club, garden group

 

-CET Review and feedback was submitted

 

-Board BBQ in June and Board Retreat in July

 

            b. CSS

-          Garage Sale May 13 11-2:30 5850 Kerrywood Dr. Red Deer

 

-          Consumer Conference Beach Package Tickets $2.00 on Sale Monday May 9. Available at CSS, CARS, Parkland Class

 

-          Participating in Pitch-in at Coronation Park, May 9

 

 

c. Resident Council

-          Starting Master Minds, May 9

 

-          CASA- Resident Council will be the first group to translate PDD Central Board Minutes and agenda to plain language, also will be shooting our pedestrian safety commercial- it will be posted on the PDD website

 

-          Terrie Hauck is the new mentor trained for My Life Workbook

 

-          Michener Services celebrating Alberta’s 100th birthday on August 31, BBQ and dance, T-shirts will also be on sale

 

-          Michener will be closing the North site within 3 years

 

d. Eagles Council

-          upcoming meetings- CASA, LAIRD, Consumer Conference, Rights Group

 

-          upcoming workshops- Sexual Health, Alzheimer’s Society, Epilepsy Association, Premier’s Council on Status of People with Disabilities

 

-          Spring Dance May 13 4-8p.m. at Action Group, Tickets $10.00 includes supper, snacks, and great music

 

-          Ten Thousand Villages fundraiser went well, Eagles worked for 3 days and sold items in support of Fair Trade

 

-          Centennial play- Eagles will be presenting as part of the Aboriginal Awareness Day at Michener on June 23.

 

-          Garage and Bake Sale May 27 10:00-4:00 at Action Group

 

e. Relax Crew

- April- had Search and Rescue visit

 

-May-Aboriginal drummers coming in May

 

-Part of Money finders- Beach bag tickets on Sale Monday May 9- Draw will be June 14

 

-Relax Crew 14th Birthday party next month

 

-Relax Crew Survey’s to be back on May 15

 

4.      Financial Report- Kara Stang

-Operating budget = $3553.39

- Learning Indicatives Budget= $4583.00

            -PDD has not sent this years $2000.00 operating money yet

 

Old Business:

 

1. Community Recognition Awards

            -PDD sent back the LAIRD recommendations for volunteer award - LAIRD needed to choose 2 out of 4

-          Angela made the motion for 2 volunteer nominees

-           Seconded by Harvey

-          Discussion: Joy noted that PDD needs to give LAIRD criteria to help LAIRD with deciding who to pick for Community Recognition Awards

-          All in Favor- yes

-          Carried

            -Recommendations were made and submitted back to PDD

 

 

 

 

 

New Business:

 

1. LAIRD Workshop

-          May 18 9-4 p.m. at Relax Crew, open to anyone who wants to attend.

-          Registration Deadline- May 13, RSVP to Deb Murray. If unable to attend submit ideas to Deb prior to workshop

 

2. LAIRD Rights

-          LAIRD Rights group submitted letter requesting funds for expenses; printing supplies for brochure, bookmarks, and transportation

-          Total amount requested $1000.00

-          Discussion- to take $1000.00 out of Learning Budget to support LAIRD Rights group

-          Natalie stated they will keep records of where the money is spend and what it is spend on

-          Harvie motioned that we allocate $1000.00 to the LAIRD Rights group from Learning Initiatives Budget

-          Seconded by Angela

-          All in Favor- yes
