3.      PDD Community Board Update by - Roger Will

a. PDD Community Recognition Awards

Doreen Befus Self - Advocate of the Year Award – Chuck Wilde

Gayle Moss Volunteer of the Year Award – yet to be announced

Citizen of the Year - yet to be announced

Group of the Year Award – yet to be announced

No specific celebration to award the recognition. PDD is looking for partners for community events or venues.

b.    PDD Central Community Board is looking for a new Board Intern a one year term with one year extension open until June 24th on website or 227-5884 Doris. To see what a meeting is like May 27 10 – 4 at Michener North Board Room

 

 

4. Self Advocate Updates

a.   CSS Community Connections – by Alex

-         Had A green day on the 5th of May, some won T-shirts

-         All went to Parkland Nursery to pick up flowers and Wal-Mart to fill in our planters

-         Doing a NIMBY art fence board

-         Making a quilt

-         We are going to have a penny carnival on the 26th of May, going camping and to the Ice Fields

b.    Michener Power Council – by Bradley

-         Helped with Green Deer

-         Rights Group performed at the ACDS conference in Edmonton

-         We are getting ready for Peace Tree Day at the Hub on June                 21st at 1:00pm

-         Terrie and Shelly are working on Plain Language

-         We are going to work with a group at Michener to help staff work with us better

-         Wayne is working on the Wheels in Motion Committee – event June 8th

-         Ruth helps with group 202

c.    CARS Cougars – by Richard

-   Adopt a planter with Downtown Business Association

-   Garden Group started

-   Board Retreat and BBQ in June

-   Working on our NIMBY fence board

-   Doing Plain Language PDD and community translating jobs

d.    Relax Crew – by Stephanie

-         SPCA Safety Course, Joy of laughter course, and nutrition class

-         New assistant will be arriving soon as Trish in done

-         Camp registrations start in June

-         BBQ for Consumer Conference here June 5, 2008

-         Parade float meetings for Westerner Parade

Motioned by Richard Czarnecki to accept the new executive – Rick Lynch as Chairperson, Bradley Phillips as Vice-Chair, Stephanie Prins as Treasure and that Debbie Murray and Stephanie Prins will open a chequing account that is two to sign for The Laird District Council. Seconded by Tanja Baker. All in favour – YES APPROVED.

 

b.      Miriam Kaye and Lynn Cwiklewich Would like to talk to LAIRD about a partnership to host a Michael Kendrick. Workshop in Red Deer in the fall. It is a two-week course teaching life planning and works with 30 people that go into teams of 3. Workshop will need 10 volunteers, one for each team of three, for the teams to assist with the volunteers life planning. Each team to evaluate services and the team help to create ideas to make a plan for the volunteer.

 

Miriam & Lynn gave out sample brochures and a budget from a previous course. They would make brochures, send them out and have a place booked. They need LAIRD to handle the money and take registrations. They would have LAIRD on the brochure info. Tentative dates Nov 17-21 and Dec 1-5 2008. To start as soon as possible. Please discuss and let them know ASAP. Alex motion to partner with PDD to have a Michael Kendricks work, 2nd Tanja, All in favour, passed.

 

8.   Everyone Shares Information –

a.   Adopt a Planter notice from Downtown Business Association for a one time fee of $125 The City of Red Deer will install a fixed permanent planter in front of your business and you plant flowers and water and maintain it until 2010. For more information of the form see www.downtownreddeer.com.

b.    Earth dance notice - Saturday September 13th. “Listen ln" interactive theatrical performance on May 14th at the Hub 10am Free

c.    Social Return on lnvestment lntroduction workshop on June 17th in Red Deer at CIRS. 9 am - noon e-mail sroiworkshops@gmail.com. For more information.

d.    CARE Spring Festival Sunday May 25th 1-4 pm at RD Public Library Snell Auditorium.

e.   The Lending Cupboard is looking for a handyman for painting and drywall taping and they have a small office space for rent call 356-1678.

f.      Autism Collaboration Team – Impact on Service Delivery session June 10th 4:30- 6:30pm at Children’s’ Service Centre. Call

    340-2606 before June 6th to register. Space is limited.

g.    PDD Edmonton Region is looking for new partners. For more information contact Doug Silk at (780) 415-2531.

h.    City of Red Deer is looking fro any stories about any citizens that do things that make Red Deer a more sustainable place. Do you recycle, borrow books from the library, volunteer with community groups? Fill out the online form at redder.ca or e-mail communications@reddeer.ca or call 356-8886.

K. Peace Tree Monday June 2nd at the Hub 1-3-Show Movie and     

     talk about Peace A tree and decorations with difference Peace
