Meeting Minutes

1.   Review of Minutes - Motion to accept REVISED the minutes by Darryl

                                         - Seconded by Rosa

     2.   Additions – E-mail from Leadership Today Society

 

3.          P.D.D. Update – Roger Will

a.      2007-2010 Business Plan is out on website

b.     2007-2008 budget 1.8 billion a 9.8% increase from 2006-2007 forecast

c.     New AISH Act effective May 1st. monthly living allowance is increasing by$50 to $1010. Revised information booklet available at www.seniors.gov.ab.ca/AISH

d.     Norm McLeod Community Inclusion Awards October 19th in Calgary. 3 awards Leadership adult with developmental disability who inspires other, Dreamweaver recognizes individuals who are dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities and are committed to community inclusion, NEW Community Contribution will recognize a community group or organization in AB that has no direct involvement with PDD but who has improved the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities and recognizes that individuals can fully participate in their community.

e.      Board Recruitment expected appointments for upcoming board members for up to 3 positions on PDD Central Community Board by end of June.

g.     Self Advocate 2007 fall Leadership Ret4reat scheduled for Sept 5th, 6th, 7th at Battle Lake registrations due Aug 3rd (780) 352-6096

i.        Next Board meeting June 26th 9a at Training Room of north Admin Bldg at Michener Services.

 

4.    Self Advocate Updates

a.      C.S.S. Community Connections- In May the basement of CSS flooded so they have dealing with that. Looking forward to summer camping.

b.     Michener Power Council- # members where in Dryheave Undressed

     play great to work with teens all had fun. 6 members are planning the

     Self-Advocate Conference and one for IDDP. Two members are

     working with Twyla on a Theatre of the Oppressed and will be resenting a

     show in August and at the CAAN Retreat. 3 self-advocates from Central    

    region attended the Housing conference in Edmonton. Selling raffle tickets for

    Self-Advocate Conference for a trip. Helping CSS with a community garden.

    Making a movie to help staff learn why having a class 4 license is important.

    Working on a petition for street safety at intersection of 38 Ave & Ross St.

                    Attended the Disability Pride Parade in Calgary. Learning “Service as We See

                    It” from Action Hall in Calgary and Miriam aye will be teaching about Person

                   Centred Planning. A members on CASA has been working selling CASA plain

                   Language service in the community. Tanya will be returning in September.

c.     C.A.R.S. Cougars – Open House and BBQ June 26th 11-2 at Grandview Community Shelter 4510 41 Ave free hotdogs or burgers drink and cake information session presentations and a magic show. COME ONE COME ALL! Board Retreat coming June 20th 21st and 22nd at Red Lodge Guest Ranch.

d.     Relax Crew- 16th Birthday of Relax Crew a party on 22nd, Rappin About Reptiles Show coming in June, in Westerner Day parade, LG Barnes camping in summer, bus trip to Banff. No executive Mtgs in July & Aug. bussing issue with stop across the street from relax Crew NO BUS talking with KEVIN JOLLIE at City Transit please support Relax Crew with this and contact Kevin. Year End wind up end of Aug usually with Cosmos will be opened up this year Aug 30th more information to come!

 

5.          Financial Report

a.      PDD Letters of Agreement with CSS for funding.  Operating Budget amount of $2000 and Learning Initiatives budget amount of $5000, for a total of $7000. - Calls into Brian Reynolds NO response yet. Roger will enquire on behalf of LAIRD.

                  b.   Operating & Learning Initiatives Budget Balance = $898.36

 

6.    Old Business

a.            Public Speaker presentation - Cory Johnson

a.      Darryl will introduce Cory with prepared information.

b.     Group will thank with certificate that Power Council will make

c.     Relax Crew will purchase beverages and snacks

d.     Cougars will resend out invitation next week

e.      All LAIRD members will come at 6p to set up.

 

 

 

7.    New Business

a.            PDD Volunteer Recognition - Carmen Kostiuk ask LAIRD if PDD could present the Volunteer Award for PDD Community Recognition Awards after Cory Presentation, approx 5-10 minutes on June 25th Motioned by Stanley and 2nd by Rosa ALL IN FAVOR

 

      8.Information Sharing

a.      CARS Cougars have a member Harvie Toews that sits on the Community Advisory Committee On Inclusion and Accessibility.  This committee contributes to and support the City Of Red Deer to increase awareness and explore opportunities to make better the city’s ability to involve and include citizens who have disabilities. If you know of improvements or have concerns about things like city facilities, employment, or services including such things as property buildings, walkways, pathways, parks, programs, and customer

     services or have seen something great please report to the Cougars

     Cougars@carsrd.org or to Harvie Toews.
