Welcome and Introductions
In Attendance: CARS- Rick Lynch,
Harvie Toews, Debbie Murray. Michener- Brittney Gross,

1. Review of Minutes – error noted on Sept 7th minutes =
CSS retains the “Operating Budget” for LAIRD and CIRS (not CSS) has the
“Learning Account”. CSS can report on both.

October 20th 2-4pm at Relax Crew PDD will be celebrating the
regional awards for – Citizen at Large, Self-Advocate of the Year,
Volunteer of The Year, Group of The Year.
Invitations are coming out soon.

3. Self Advocate Updates

Community Connections – Thanksgiving Dinner being hosted. Dec 14th
Christmas Dinner being hosted. Call 347-8844 for more information.
CSS
requested LAIRD allow them to use the Operating Account for the Front Line
Support Workshop. MOTIONED by Debbie Murray That CSS use the Operating
Account as an in and out account (No cost to LAIRD just to receive
registration and pay out costs), SECOND by Harvie Toews. CARRIED

Lacombe
Eagles – In Oct they
had a tour and workshop at the Fire Department about Fire Safety. – The
Centennial Play was performed 4 times in Sept and Once in October. They
will also be performing it at Terrace
Ridge School.
“Wings” has resumed and is planning new skits. – Eagles have become Lacombe
Optimists members. – Toastmasters Eagles have 8 embers with Cosmos
Toastmasters. – Breakfast Club going well they serve an average of 30 kids a
day. –
ArtSparks Drumming Oct 11th, 25th, Nature Art was in
Sept, Stone Carving Oct 17th & 24th. –
Fundraising – Garage & Hot Dog Sale
they made $746.62. – Halloween Dance Friday October 28th Call

Workshops in Sept – Depression, Oct 5th relationships, Oct 12th
Fire Safety, Oct 19th Lacombe Globe James Neeley “What it is
like to be a reporter”, Oct 26th Psychiatric nurse practicum
presentations, Nov 2nd Wills with Rick Hemmingston.

Michener
Power Council –
Changed their name it means P= Promoting O= opportunities W= worth
E=empowerment R= responsibility. – They have 4 new members on the Council.
– They have a Social Work practicum student that started Sept 12th.
– Nov 7th Client Forum to talk about the North Site Closing. A
CET information session in the next few months. Sept 12th had an
Idea Fair. – Members went to Battle Lake CAAN Leadership retreat. CASA Oct
20th Community Living Celebration with Stage Left. - Power
Council Translation Teams turn to do Plain Language Translation of PDD
Board meeting agenda and minutes. - Collecting money for Hurricane Katrina
survivors.

Cougars – Very active
with CASA.s projects PDD Plain Language, Safe Communities Coalition of
Central Alberta Pedestrian Safety Injury Prevention, Community Living
Awareness month Celebration with Stage Left. – We nominated Red Lodge
Outfitters for a City of Red Deer
Red Award Tourism Award and they will be receiving
it, a member went to celebrate and take photos of the event. Natalie
Schmidt received CAAN Self Advocate of the Year Award at the Leadership
Retreat and was elected the Chairperson. – Rights Group working with
ArtSparks for an acting class. – Gardening, Scrap Booking, Wrestling, Peer
Support groups still ongoing. – Person Centred Planning Committee members
report CARS new and improved process almost complete. – Consumer Conference
Finance, $ Finders and Planners as well as Self Advocate Summit planners
very active. – Our fundraising campaign Cookie Dough rapping up Oct 11th.
– Halloween Dinner and Dance upcoming.

working on a Hockey Draw coming in October. – Elections for President,
vice-president, Secretary, Treasurer Oct 14th. – 297 members. – Banff trip in Sept
great trip. – 139 people at Thanksgiving Dinner. – 31st

New
MISSION STATEMENT: “The LAIRD District Council will work
together with people in our community to help others understand and for
everyone to be given a chance to be included.” MOTIONED by Tanja Johnston
to accept translated version, SECOND by Bob Doherty CARRIED

Membership - Bob Doherty reported on emails
received with ideas on potential new members. He provided a summary of
names and groups suggested and presented the idea of and open house and
provided a draft invitation. DISCUSSION about similar group meetings at
CIRS MOTIONED by Debbie Murray to send Gina Belich as our representative to
this meeting and to report back about the membership and content of it.

Organizational
Structure / Job Descriptions - Harvie Toews to report on Organizational Structure draft of job
descriptions. CHAIRPERSON- sets up meetings, runs meetings, books mgt
space, corresponds with PDD. VICE-CHAIRPERSON.
TREASURER- Deals with contracts with PDD, collects funds, collects invoices/bills,
pays bills/invoices, reports monthly at mtgs, handles learning money
requests, handles operating money requests.
SECRETARY- make agendas, records minutes, gives out agendas and minutes,
posts agendas and minutes, membership contact list maintenance, VICE
SECRETARY, DIRECTORS (6)- attend mtgs, gather information sharing items,
gives updates of important activities, information, or groups, reports back
to place of business, peers, group, or others (Agreed as follows: 1 chair 1
co-chair, treasurer, secretary, vice-secretary, and directors (6). A
two-year term elections held in May.) MOTIONED by Bob Doherty That they
chairperson and vice chairperson and secretary and vice secretary alternate
jobs. SECOND by Harvie Toews. CARRIED
