LAIRD  Meeting Minutes

November 2, 2005

Bob called the meeting to order at 12:01

Welcome & Introductions (attendance sheet circulated).

1. everyone reviewed the minutes of the last meeting.

Tanja moved that the minutes of the last meeting be approved as read.

Harvey seconded the motion.

 

2. PDD Update: Pat Marshall reported that PDD presented the Community Recognition Awards.  Both MLA’s were in attendance, but very few other attendees.  If anyone has any questions regarding Michener Centre or some of the newspaper articles that have been circulating, please call Lorne at PDD.  The PDD board and MLA’s will be meeting with Yvonne Fritz on Friday, November 4. 

 

3. CLAM update: The Stage Left play was a huge success.  We especially enjoyed the participatory aspect.  There were minimal people from the community.

 

4.”Build Your Own Tool Box”  Workshop: It was great.  Very good speakers, especially Lisa Rozic.  Members felt that the event was not advertised well enough.  It was well attended, but would have liked more participants.

 

5. Self-Advocate Updates:

a.      CSS Community Connections: They had a great Hallowe’en party, and are now busy planning for Christmas.

b.     Eagles Council: The Eagles are busy fundraising for the Consumer Conference, mileage fees to Toastmasters, and the Lacombe Louisiana relief fund.  The Council members who participated in ARTSPARKS drumming and acting lessons really enjoyed themselves.

c.      Michener Power Council: The Council is busy fundraising for Consumer Conference, United Way and Hurricane Katrina survivors.  There will be a client forum on November 7th to talk about the North site closing.

d.     C.A.R.S. Cougars: They also had a Hallowe’en dance; Adopt-a-Family going well; a person applied to sit on the Advisory Transportation Council; C.A.R.S. raised $300.00 for United Way.

e.      Relax Crew: There were 168 people at their Hallowe’en Dance.  They are into Christmas planning now. Volunteers are needed for the Christmas Kettles.  They have been busy selling poppies and collecting for the food bank.  The elections for Relax Crew executive will be held this Friday, Nov. 4th.

f.        Thunderbirds: They are hosting a Toonie Talent Night Nov, 18th at 6:30 PM.  This is a fundraiser.   They are having executive elections on December 12.

 

 

 

6. Financial Report: There is $3,962.41 balance.  In regards to the Learning Budget, they are still waiting a response from PDD.

 

7. Old Business:

a.      Gina reported on her meeting with the CIRS network, which meets the 2nd Wednesday of every month.  She presented LAIRD with a list of the organizations that attend CIRS.

b.     Deb Murray gave a brief update on Consumer Conference registrations.  Cost is $110.00 per person, and it is first come, first served.

8. New membership committee structure

·         Wrote up new mission statement last meeting

·         Discussion on extending an invitation to CIRS network to join LAIRD

·         Discussion on membership orientation, recruitment, awareness, advertising

·         Who are we targeting? FCSS, service clubs?

·         Tracey to send her list of new members to Tanja.

·         Everyone to brainstorm on membership orientation ideas, what the membership should look like, and strategies to recruit them.

·         Send all ideas to Tanja.

 

9. Information Sharing: November is family abuse prevention month.  Contact the city for events/displays/information on family violence and prevention.

 

10. CAAN meeting: Tuesday, Dec 13 from 10 to 2 PM at Michener Theatre, Red Deer.  RSVP to Paulette in Wetaskiwin.

 

11. Next meeting: Wed. Dec 7th at Relax Crew at 12 noon.  LAIRD will provide pizza for lunch.  RSVP by Mon. Dec 5th at 1 PM.  Call Rhonda at 343 1933 ext 100, or email her at rbrand@pclass.org
