LAIRD DISTRICT COUNCIL

Welcome and Introductions (attendance sheet circulated)

1.     Review of Minutes - MOTION to accept the minutes by Stanley -SECONDED by Rick  ALL IN  FAVOR - PASSED

 

2.    Additions

a)    Cory Johnson and Delburne School

b)    Secretary binder – Amber reports contents are: All web page          

              information, minutes, agenda, incoming correspondence, outgoing

              correspondence, contact information.

 

3.     P.D.D. Update – Dawn Parent - no PDD representative present  

 

4.     Self Advocate Updates

a) C.S.S. Community Connections – Annual X-mas lunch on Dec 5th a  

              great time. Dolly was co-mc for IDDP on Dec 4th. Young Rockers is

              doing a x-mas light tour on Dec 19th 6-8pm. Meet at the club. Sharon

              performed at IDDP with the Rights Learning & Theatre Group.

         b) Lacombe Eagles – n/a

         c) Michener Power Council - helped to raise almost &700.00 in the

             Parade of Pennies for the United Way. Also with Marlin and 332,000

             Strong to learn about making a difference for people with disabilities by

             exercising our right to vote. Some members registered with the coalition

             and voted for who they wanted to be the next leader of the province.

             We attended the IDDP planning meetings to organize the day that was

             celebrated at the Hub on December 04/2006. Members did a

             presentation at City Hall Atrium for IDDP. “Freak Out: One hour festival of

             disability arts” was attended by 5 self-advocates from Michener Services.

             Power Council members who attend LAIRD, CAAN, & CASA. ArtSparks

             on the Boards on Wednesday nights is a great chance for some of our

             members to work with the Teahouse Youth Theatre. Chuck and Ida are

             working with Theatre of the Oppressed leader Twyla Swennen to

             produce a play. Look forward to seeing this play added to the other

             performances by the Rights Learning and Theatre Group. Michener

             Services provided transportation for 29 self-advocates from Central

             Region to attend the 2008 Self-advocate planning meeting. Our next

             meeting is January 15th in Lacombe. The Power Council is one way

             people who live at Michener can get involved in opportunities, learn

             about self-advocacy, their rights and responsibilities and have fun by

             being involved.

c)    C.A.R.S. Cougars – We had individuals involved in CASA IDDP, Rights

    Learning and Theatre Group Self-Advocate Conference CAAN, CAC,

        e) Relax Crew – A food bank donation box is at the club house

             for donations. X-mas concert Dec 12th, x-mas dinner and dance

             Dec 22nd, New executive, web site up and running in new year

             www.pclass.org

                            

5.     Financial Report – CSS – Marcy Lenover

a) Finance binder – contents are; Monthly ledger sheets, submitted

             requisitions, blank requisitions, PDD agreement, and letter of agreement

             for both Learning and Operation budgets.

          b) Operating Budget & Learning Indicatives Budget Balance = $3961.76

 

    6. Old Business

a)    Open house – March 2007 – discussion about guest speakers snacks 

    and beverages. LAIRD information about partnership in past and

    possibilities. Cougars will look into possible speakers - Cory Johnston

    closing speaker and Marlin Styner as opening speaker. Power Council    

    will look into a fun entertainment.

b)    Membership - tabled

c)    Lacombe Eagles - Project Art Of Friendship update received November 6th project not yet begun looking at sometime in 2007.  Letter sent on November 7th requesting return of $860.00 funds and suggestion to reapply. Marcy MOTIONED Rhonda SECOND ALL IN FAVOR – PASSED Debbie to contact Eagles to acknowledge receipt of the letter and intentions (due date for repayment is Dec 31st). POST MEETING UPDATE – full payment received Dec11th 2006

 

7. New Business

a)    IDDP financial support request of maximum $200 – Rhonda

             MOTIONED maximum of $200.00 until specific amount is requested 

             in writing, SECONDED by BRADLEY ALL IN FAVOR – PASSED.
