LAIRD is a broad, loosely coupled group. There is no compulsion to attend or participate, however there is strong expectation that LAIRD continues in it’s role of providing a form for discussion of a wide range of issues affecting individuals with developmental disabilities and all of the associated service system.

LAIRD is organized through four committees. These committees are responsible for planning, development and action in a number of areas. The four committees are identified as:

  1. Community Needs: Day Program, Respite
  2. Learning and Development: Staff development, client development, parent development, sharing resources.
  3. Planning and Evaluation: Tap into existing councils, documents, and regional presentation.
  4. Promotion: Orientation, brochure, advertising, information to agency secretaries, information to PDD support staff, presentations, Handicapped children services.
  5. Persons with Developmental Disabilities Community Recognition Awards Selection
  6. Consumer Conference Subsidy Selection Committee
  7. Community Learning Initiative Committee
  8. Membership Recruitment Committee

The four committees act as the framework for communication for the LAIRD District Council. Each committee will provide an overview of its projects at regular meetings to ensure ongoing communication.
